The kayaking instruction clinics are offered in two half day sessions. Our Registered Maine Guides will help you prepare for the state exam through an online and in-person module. The ACA instructor certification workshop helps you learn how teach and inspire safe paddling.

Whitewater Instruction
Maine Kayak offers specialized whitewater kayaking instruction with a course for every skill level and ability, by American Canoe Association certified instructors on the Penobscot River in Maine.
Training & Certifications
Join our hybrid Registered Maine Sea Kayak Guide Course to gain the skills and become a licensed guide. In addition, we offer ACA and WFA certification courses to further enhance your qualifications.

Sea Kayaking Instruction Basics 1 & 2
We offer two basic kayaking instruction clinics focusing on learning the essentials to hit the water. Our instructors will teach paddling strokes, boats balance, on water safety, navigation, self and assisted kayak rescues. Our Basic 1 and Basic 2 courses are taught as half-day, successional forums to take your sea kayaking skills to the next level and get you fully prepared to safety enjoy your time on the water.
Whitewater Kayaking Instruction
Maine Kayak’s Beginner One & Two whitewater Courses introduce basic flatwater skills and progress to class II-III white water paddling techniques throughout the course curriculum. These courses are offered as a complimentary and successive instructional forum to take student’s from novice whitewater boaters to advanced beginner Class III paddlers. Experienced paddlers can hone their skills in our Intermediate and Advanced whitewater courses. Or try our Private Instruction for a more personalized learning opportunity for all abilities.
Registered Maine Sea Kayak Guide Course
Join us for a hybrid Registered Maine Sea Kayak Guide Course that will provide you the skills and training to become a fully licensed and registered Maine Sea Kayak Guide. Registered Maine Guides have a long history in the state and must be among the highest skilled and most knowledgable paddlers on the water. We cover everything from boating laws to navigation to hard skills to risk management over the course of 7 online sessions and 3 days on water.
ACA Instructor Certification
The ACA Level 2 Instructor training and certification course is a rewarding path that will help you become an effective learning-centered teacher, as well as improve your own depth of knowledge and paddling abilities. This three day course is appropriate for paddlers with established personal skills who would like to share their love of kayaking with others. Whether you plan to teach friends, help develop skills within your paddling club, or work as a paddling instructor, ACA Instructor training and certification are a rewarding path that will help you become an effective learning-centered teacher, as well as improve your own depth of knowledge and paddling abilities.
Wilderness First Aid Course
We have also teamed up with SOLO Wilderness Medical School to offer a Wilderness First Aid Course (WFA) for outdoor enthuses looking to lead in the backcountry. We will be covering topics that include emergency response and assessment, trauma, musculoskeletal injury, environmental emergencies and survival, soft tissue injuries and medical emergencies.
