Maine Kayak offers a Registered Maine Sea Kayaking Guide Course for individuals who are looking to lead sea kayaking day trips and overnight trips for Maine Kayak.
Our course will cover a variety of topics, including risk management, group dynamics, navigation, safety, outfitting, Maine coastal flora and fauna, leave no trace ethics and other subjects that will help you to prepare for the Registered Maine Guide exam. This 6-day course will have classroom and on-water practical sessions and mock oral and written exams that will prepare you to take the Maine state sea kayak guide test, a requirement of all Maine sea kayaking guides. Course dates and locations are listed below.
The Maine Kayak guide course price includes the 40 hour training course, all curriculum materials, kayaking equipment and paddling gear for the on-water days, and instruction from a Master Registered Maine Sea Kayak Guide and other relevant professionals. Participants will be required to pay all Maine state fees (background check/fingerprinting, testing and license fees) and are asked to provide their own lunch for each day of the course, bathing suit/paddle wear, and a great attitude. If your goal is to become a Maine Guide, you will need to submit the guide license application, testing fee and paperwork on your own (see Guide License application button above for more information). Also, the State of Maine requires finger printing and a background check, which must be done on your own before you send in your application and testing fee to the State of Maine.
